Bass Fishing Reports
Right now is a great time to catch big bass here on Lake Fork. While most anglers have put their boats up for the year, there is still a tremendous amount of excellent fishing to experience with little or no fisherman on the water to compete with getting to your favorite honey holes. Wintertime bass fishing on Lake Fork is an often overlooked season to catch a fish of a lifetime and I expect this December to be better than usual due to the lack of cold temperatures in November that normally drive the fish into their fall feeding frenzy. That means there are still a lot of hungry fish out there to be caught this month. A fish nearly 16 lbs was caught by a crappie fisherman recently as well as several other big bass like 11 yr old Calvin Fease''s 11.04 lb Lake Fork HAWG!

Lake Fork Fishing Report 10JUN07

I finally get a moment to sit down and write this short report. Lake Fork is at full pool, give or take a few inches day to day. The water clarity is clear, especially the further south you are fishing. Milfoil and Hydrilla is just about in every area of the lake now that I have fished. I have been finding the outside grass line in 10-13 ft. in most areas.

The bass fishing here on the lake has been great. 90% of my trips in the last 2 weeks have been at night. The bite was the greatest during the 10 days around the full moon earlier this month. As we loose moonlight the night bite has decreased. Many of my trips earlier this month would start out with topwater baits one hour before dark. We would often catch 20-30 fish during this time, mostly small fish. Then after dark we would head to main lake points, humps and flats with grasses, timber and an occasional man made brush pile to go hawg hunting. This is where the bigger fish were taking Reaction Innovations Big Unit in Black Emerald. I am using a 7/16 pegged bullet weight with a 5/0 long shank, offset Owner hook. I rig this on a 7ft. heavy action St. Croix or Falcon rod with 25-30 lb. test Sunline. Many hearts will be broken using any lighter line in the areas we are fishing! Most bites were coming on the outside grass line or in the brush piles. This night bite will pick back up during our next full moon period which is on 30JUN07.

The bite during the day has improved since the nights are darker. If they are not feeding at night, they must feed during the day. A Revenge jig in Blk/Blue/Purlple with an assortment of Sweet Beaver colors as a trailer has produced the largest bite. Pitching and Flipping the timber around the grass is key. We have also caught some nice fish on 4-9 inch swim baits in 10-45 ft. A drop shot Reaction Innovations (Flirt) will catch numbers all over the lake from 5-45 ft.

Give me a call for a trip here on Lake Fork . This makes a great gift for Fathers Day or any occasion. Let me be your Lake Fork Guide.

Tight Lines,

Guide Clint Wright

Well, hello fellow fishermen and women. This report is for Lake Fork, Texas July 12, 2006 until today July 16, 2006. The past few days of fishing have truly been exciting. The daytime bite has been found in 25-30 foot of water. We have been starting off early in the morning at these depths and the fish are biting when we show up. This has led me to believe that the shallow water bite is just about done! The fish we have caught are here one day and somewhere else the next. A good color graph is a must. I am NOT catching any fish unless I mark them on my graph first. These fish are fairly easy to catch. Drop shot, Carolina Rig, Texas Rig, Jigs and Spoons have been my arsenal along with the occasional DD-22 in a shad pattern. The plastics I am throwing are just what ever I feel like grabbing out of the box. I know these bass are feeding on Shad, but I have caught several lately that have nice size yellow bass (sand bass) hanging out of their throat. These yellow bass are as big as my hand!!! What they plan on doing with something as big as a DD-22 with that fish in their throat blows my mind? As the evening approaches I have been following these fish to areas that are still deep but much closer to 10 and 12 foot w/ grass close by. But, these fish are no longer committing to the shallow grass like they were in my two previous reports; this tactic has proven useless for us. Drops, ledges, humps etc. are the all time pattern now. (Look on your map and find the areas where the contour lines come close together.) In the evening, if not too much wind, keep a Zara Spook or some top water tied on, the big fish are schooling. I am talking big fish too. Three to Eight pound ranges have been caught on top by my clients in the last couple of days, in 25 foot of water. Tonight was my first booked night trip in a couple of days. Good job Louann on your 7lb. hawg. We fished from 6p.m. until 10p.m. They must of caught 20 fish over 3 pounds. But, the night bite proved to be tougher than usual. That’s why we call it fishing not catching. If you have never fished at night for Bass at Lake Fork, you are really missing out. I have been night fishing Lake Fork for over 20 years and would like to show you this great lake after the sun goes down. I really enjoy night fishing this time of year, not as hot and most of the time better fishing. We don't have to fish as deep at night either, most of the time. The best tip I can give today is to upsize the weight on your drop shot to at least a ¾ ounce. This allows the bait to stay in one place longer. Same with jigs, we had best luck with 1 ounce jigs just twitching it. I have also started using 1 ounce bullet weight on the Texas rig with a 5/0 hook. This allows the bait to wonder farther into the brush piles. It also allows you to cover water quickly. If you fish a spoon, try one that is big (7 inches in chrome). Let it fall straight down to the bottom and pull up, repeat. Fish a spoon on light drag as you will not be fishing this in brush (unless you just want to get rid of it). If you want to stock up on Spoons, Plastics or terminal tackle see Don at Anglers Online in Yantis, Texas. He is a super nice guy and has a large assortment of tackle. Let him know Clint sent ya!

New Mexico Fly Fishing Report Summer 2005

Bass Fishing Reports
Friends and Fellow Anglers, Runoff is winding down on most area streams and fishing this summer should be better than the past few drought plagued seasons. The Stonefly Hatch is in progress on the Cimarron and fishing has been excellent on the lower reaches of the river as they haven't been releasing a significant amount of water from the dam. The Cimarroncita has been especially good with # 12 Stimulators. We have been fishing on the Costilla also and it looks like the fish are in good shape there also. We have a new piece of private water on the lower river near Amalia. Ed Adams New Mexico Fly Fishing GuideThe Valle Vidal opens on July 1st and there is plenty of water in the resevoir this year so flows should be decent. The Red and the Embudo are still running high but are clearing and should be great by late June. The Conejos probably won't be fishing till late June as they usually have a more intense, long lasting runoff (Its running 1300cfs on the lower river now). We have access thru Conejos River Anglers to a couple of private leases including the Hamilton Lease on the upper river and a new one down by Broyles Bridge. Culebra Creek is starting to clear and Rita had a good day up there yesterday with a couple of guys from Amarillo.

In August we are having a series of fly fishing camps on the Cimarroncita Ranch that will include expert instruction in all levels of fly fishing, lodging and access to the "Dream Water" on the Cita. Myself, Rita and Doc Thompson will be the instructors/guides. For details visit the Cita's website at cimrroncita.com

Looks like a banner year in the Sangre de Christos
Hope to see you soon Ed & Rita Adams
